Having enjoyed an early breakfast in Weerawila, you can then travel towards the colonial city of Galle which will give you the chance to indulge in local luxury, through a morning of shopping at Barefoot, situated down the Corner of Church and Peddler Street, a southern outpost of the stylish Colombo homeware shop, Orchid House -near Dutch Hospital, selling handicraft, sarongs, and gems and Stick No Bills that offers a variety of printed designs on postcards or wallpapers.
After a nice stroll along the streets of the Galle Fort you can check in at your hotel which is the Fortaleza that is set in a contemporary and Western style together with the perfect blend of an Asian accent at the same time. Its heart is situated at the sunken-in courtyard Restaurant and Bar at No. 9 Church Cross Street.
Later after a scrumptious lunch, you can have a sneak peek of Galle Fort from the very top, with a breath-taking view of the golden sunset.
The Fort’s wall is where locals and tourists come together and enjoy the beautiful view over the city and on the sea. Start at the white lighthouse on the south-eastern part of the fort. The lighthouse is iconic to Galle Fort. From there, walk around along the seaside.
Walk to the northwest side of the Fort where you can see the Clock Tower. That side is the connection between Galle City and Galle Fort. It’s a 2km walk around the fort and once explored you will head back and enjoy the night at the hotel.
